On September 28, 2024, the Faculty of Law Alumni Association of Universitas Indonesia (ILUNI FHUI) gathered to celebrate a historic milestone — the 100th anniversary of the Faculty of Law, Universitas Indonesia (FHUI). Held at the picturesque Depok Campus, the event, themed “Back to Campus,” was more than just a reunion; it was a moment to honor the rich legacy of one of Indonesia’s oldest and most prestigious law schools.
The event was meticulously planned to reflect the vibrant history of FHUI and provide an engaging day for alumni spanning multiple decades. Clad in a sea of red and white, participants relished the chance to reconnect with old friends, reminisce about campus days, and show their unwavering support for their alma mater. The enthusiastic atmosphere was evident as alumni, decked out in themed shirts, gathered early in the morning for the start of the day’s festivities.
A Morning of Camaraderie and Laughter
The day kicked off at 5:30 AM with an open registration, where participants collected their welcome packs and mingled with fellow alumni. By 6:30 AM, everyone had gathered for a lively ice-breaking session. This was followed by a fun walk around the campus — an activity that allowed attendees to revisit familiar spots and see the remarkable growth of the university over the years. The energy was palpable as the group stopped for team photos in front of the iconic UI Rectorate Building, symbolising the institution’s strength and heritage.
For many, the fun walk was a nostalgic journey back in time. With the “Safari Bus Kuning” transporting alumni around campus, participants were reminded of their days as students, hopping on these buses for classes and campus activities. Stops at prominent landmarks like the Auditorium and the library sparked stories and shared memories, enriching the event’s spirit of camaraderie.
Unity in Diversity: A Colorful Parade
At 9:30 AM, the event transitioned into a vibrant parade — the Defile. Alumni representing various decades took part in this parade, each group showcasing their unique colors, flags, and banners. The 2000s batch, for example, stood out with their spirited red attire and banners emblazoned with the numbers “2002” and “2007,” reflecting the strong bonds that remain years after graduation.
The parade moved into the Auditorium, where a retrospective session titled “Nostalgia di Auditorium” was held. Here, alumni shared stories and experiences that shaped their journeys at FHUI. A special segment, “Kilas Balik OPT Kampus,” was dedicated to retracing the history of student organizations and activities, allowing participants to revisit the vibrant student life that has always been a hallmark of FHUI.
Afternoon Delights and Flash Mobs
The event’s highlight was the “Back to Campus” segment, which began at 10:00 AM and included a series of engaging activities. From the “Welcome Dance” featuring traditional Balinese dance to a lively Band Lintas Angkatan performance, alumni were treated to a mix of cultural and modern performances. The Kuliner Nostalgia section, featuring local delicacies, added a special touch, evoking memories of favorite campus cafes and food stalls.
Throughout the day, alumni participated in games, challenges, and the much-anticipated Lintas Angkatan Challenge, fostering a spirit of friendly competition among different cohorts. The event wrapped up with a fun and spontaneous "FlashMob", a joyous display of unity and celebration that perfectly encapsulated the energy and enthusiasm of the day.
A Legacy of Excellence
As the day drew to a close, it was clear that the ILUNI FHUI Dies Natalis celebration was a resounding success. With over a hundred years of excellence, FHUI has produced leaders, professionals, and change-makers who have shaped Indonesia’s legal landscape. This centennial celebration was not just a look back at the past but a reaffirmation of the commitment to continue fostering legal excellence for future generations.
The spirit of FHUI lives on, stronger than ever, in the hearts of its alumni. This 100-year celebration was a testament to the enduring legacy of the Faculty of Law, Universitas Indonesia, and the powerful bonds shared by its graduates. As ILUNI FHUI moves forward, the legacy of FHUI will continue to inspire and influence the legal community in Indonesia and beyond.
Happy 100th anniversary, FHUI! Here’s to another century of success, impact, and leadership.
